Jay Schwedelson came to us in 2021 with an idea born out of the COVID-19 pandemic: what if he put on a free virtual marketing conference that people actually wanted to attend? At the time, the only model was cost-prohibitive, in-person, and corporate (read: boring). What people needed were practical tools and actionable advice they could deploy immediately to step up their email marketing performance.
He described a conference designed to help companies transcend their current strategies that would be Informed by a deep pool of real-time user data, presenters that would share the latest digital trends and best practices, and fun elements like DJ dance parties in breakout rooms, trivia sessions, and famous keynote speakers. He needed a brand that combined expertise, engagement, and enjoyment.
Since the Guru Conference launched in November 2022, the brand has seen explosive growth. Not only have the annual conferences been smashing successes, Jay and his team have extended the brand to other virtual events, podcasts, and certifications—all housed within a media hub designed to connect marketers to marketers.
